Age And Alcohol, While Older, Less Tolerant

If you've always felt that resistance to alcohol and it is not easy to go overboard for a drink, perhaps with age I have noticed otherwise. Here we tell you about it, what should be, what precautions you should take in relation to age and alcohol, and you remember what the amount of alcohol that is considered healthy for a woman.

control your health
If you are young you always boasted of being able to take more than a drink without actually getting drunk, maybe now you're older, you realize that just one beer can make you lose your balance. Or if not your case, you may see your mom or dad, in a meeting or at a family party and take little 'get glad' quickly or to make a fool of myself.

This is because as we age, our body becomes more sensitive, less tolerant to alcohol. The National Institute of Health for older people (National Institutes of Health's seniors) recently issued a warning to remind people over 65 who even a few drinks or a few sips of alcohol can affect much more than before.

Why? Studies have shown that older people metabolize or process alcohol more slowly. Moreover, as the years pass, the amount of water in the body decreases. Therefore, an older person who consumes few glasses of wine, for example, has the highest percentage of alcohol in his blood, that a young person who takes exactly the same amount. Even if you get used to take a certain amount of alcoholic beverages without changing your number, you may start noticing changes in your response every time you have a year of life.

If you are a woman, the American Heart Association (American Heart Association) recommends you consume one alcoholic beverage per day. This equals 12 ounces of beer or 4 oz. of wine, for example. But remember, that regardless of the passage of time, alcohol brings other risks: take over increases blood pressure, obesity , the likelihood of stroke (stroke or cerebral vascular accidents), diabetes , breast cancer , accidents, suicide and of course, predisposes you to become dependent (alcoholism). So, if you do not drink, do not start doing better and if you already do, always keep in mind it in moderation. That way, you will reduce the risks of health problems.

If you're older, this news does not mean you should stop drinking altogether. Rather, you should do it more aware of what you drink and how often you do it. The National Institute of Health, recommends that if you're over 65, do not consume more than 7 alcoholic drinks a week and 3 is the best to drink in a day.

If you are unsure, check with your doctor. Remember that if you take drugs, herbs or supplements, alcohol can interact with them causing negative reactions. In some cases is contraindicated mix. Learn and do not let alcohol interfere with your health.
